Barossa snapshot Originally established by the British, the Barossa is one of te most historic wine producing regions in Australia. There is a strong German influence which came from Lutheran emigrants from Prussia. German was in fact the preferred language until the early 1900s. There are now 6th generation grape-growing families and Barossa is home to Australia’s largest collection of old vines with many blocks of still productive vines dating back to the 1860s. Langmeil’s Freedom vineyard (planted in 1843) is likely the oldest Shiraz vineyard in the world.Shiraz is Barossa’s star performer but Grenache, Mourvedre and Semillon all produce exciting wines. 10,350ha Total vineyard area (2012) 34° 29's Latitude 35° 07’S (Junee), 35° 17’S (Tumut), 34° 38’S (Cootamundra) Altitude 280-320mm Growing season rainfall 21.4°c Mean temperature January 1700 Heat degree days #BarossaValley White 15% Red 85% Type Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Grenache Semillon Shiraz Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
